Premiered in Official Competition at the 2003 Cannes International Film Festival to great acclaim, Strayed is an adaptation of a popular French novel written by former parachutist Gilles Perrault called The Boy with Grey Eyes .
It is a period love story, which takes place on the eve of the German occupation. Emmanuelle Béart plays Odile, a young mother of two children, Philippe and Cathy, who join the exodus out of Paris to the south of France. En route, they make the acquaintance of Yvan (Gaspard Ulliel from A very long engagement ), a strange adolescent who invites Odile and her family to hide with him in a derelict house. Cut off from the rest of the world and living in confined quarters, Odile and Yvan find themselves confronted with their own desires.

Avoiding clichés and the typical themes normally associated with the World War II period, Techiné doesn't follow a predictable path and instead takes us into unknown territory.

Exquisitely shot by DP Agnès Godard, Téchiné's masterful drama is a visually ravishing and emotionally compelling story of discovery and loss, a luminous portrait of an impossible love, and features performances of extraordinary intensity from Béart and Ulliel.
