The
film experimented with visionary images never been seen before: talking
sculptures, a girl walking on the ceiling, the beauty of an androgyne and a
mirror turning into a pool. The poet-director uses a lot of poetic
imagination and variations in directing his debut, the first of his Orphic Trilogy,
setting the foundation for his future films with the hand as a resurrecting tool,
the eye as the extension of the gaze, the body as the site of desire. Death,
paintings, mythology, mirrors and opium form the basis of Cocteau's kaleidoscopic
visual creations.
尚．高克多實驗出當時從未出現的天馬行空影像：會說話的雕像、天花板上飛動的女孩、雙性人舒展的美態、鏡子變成水池等。 在 “ 變、變、變 ” 的影像轉化中，詩人導演以一幕幕詩的想像和變奏去實現他的奧菲三部曲 (Orphic Trilogy) 第一部，亦印下日後種種象徵物的痕跡。手是再生的器物，眼是窺視的伸展，口是語言的出口，身體是慾望的場所，還有死亡、繪畫、神話、鏡子、鴉片，幻變成種種創作的萬花筒。
