The
queen of Austria lives a lonely life in the palace until she meets
her would-be assassin, an anarchist that bears a striking resemblance
to her late husband. Old feelings and rekindled. But class difference
means she has to make a choice between love and duty.
This film is
based on the 1946 play of the same name by Cocteau, with the same actors
in the leading roles.
The dashing Jean Marais and the elegant Edwige
Feuillère are a perfect match. Featuring magnificent sets and costumes,
the film masterfully explores the conflict between collective politics
and individual humanity.
奧國皇后深居宮闈孤寂十年，一天，一位長相和死去丈夫相似的無政府主義青年闖入皇宮行刺她，卻使她芳心重開。
奈何階級和身份懸殊，迫使她陷入身份和愛情的取捨中。
本片改編自尚．高克多 1946 年同名劇作，男女主角都是原班人馬。
尚．馬赫當年英姿颯颯，和女主角高貴氣質簡直是天作之合。本片的宮廷佈景和服裝華麗奪目，亦拍出集體政治和個體人性的兩難，成為導演電影中完滿自足的一部。
