His
last film uses rich imagery to reflect on his multiple identities (poet,
screenwriter, painter and director). He looks back on his films, poetry and
paintings, the various sources of his inspiration and mythical life
experiences. His favourite actors, his adopted son, the centaur in Greek mythology,
Oedipus from Greek tragedy, his good friend Yul Brynner and even the painter
Picasso appear in the film, a sort of grand finale before his 70 th birthday.
The images are as illogical and incomprehensible as the plot.

這部可以算是尚．高克多盡地一舖運用豐富影像，對自身多重身份（詩人、編劇家、畫家、導演）作出徹低的自省。 透過時光的走廊，再次回顧他的電影、詩和繪畫，把種種創作靈感和生活經驗，珠落玉盤。他愛用的演員、現實中的義子、取材自希臘神話的馬頭人、悲劇人物依底帕斯，連好友尤伯連納、畫家畢加索都一一亮相，可說是他七十大壽前的總結篇。不合邏輯的影像和情節一樣無法理解，正如片名的副題：不要問我為甚
