Renard's film is a superb cinematographic adaptation of Inventaires,
meticulously true to Philippe Minyana's play and Robert Canterella's staging.
By setting the action in the shopping arcade of a hypermarket amid trolleys,
and anonymous shoppers turned spectators, he creates a visual story within a
story of the mechanism of Live TV game shows.
Three women — Angèle, Jacqueline,
Barbara — each brandishing an object close to their hearts, race through theirs
stories, the “inventory” of their lives under the guidance of a host who in
turn arbitrarily invite them to speak and cuts them off. It is by following
the constantly cut and retied threats of these women life's stories that we
come to understand the tragicomic significance of the three objects.
