A tilting stage with sets that pivot and teeter, a darkened ambience that facilitates optical illusions and aerial acrobats hanging by their hair are all part of Archaos: a circus like no other!

Moving beyond the thundering machines and large-scale bravura of the spectacles that forged their mythic reputation, Archaos has opted for a spare and sober aesthetic with their latest show, Margo . More mature and intimate, the acrobatic skill underpins the dramatic play unfolding upon the stage.

Margo shows ten characters and tells their story through their conflicts and intimate challenges, which are often serious, while on their trajectory in a world that can heave in an instant along horizontal and vertical planes. Prisoners of their world, they try to overcome with all their might and by all means available to them the obstacles that separate them from one another.

Gymnasts, Hip Hop dancers and old artsy karate champions weave together theatrical dialogue, dance, martial arts and prowess into a universe of explosive gravity. The music, between jungle and drum n' bass, put the finishing touches to this extraordinary choreography.

Is it acrobatics? Yes. Is it dance? Yes. Acrobatic dance? Yes. Is it ballet? Theatre? Circus? Again, yes; Margo is a harmonious blend of all these genres.

The avant-gardiste work of Archaos has been rewarded by immense successes, in the whole world since 1987. Now based in Marseille, the company has founded the European Centre for Research of the Circus Arts (CREAC), which functions as a true open laboratory and works closely with social centres and neighbourhood associations .
