Workshops

Objective
To develop active practice of the French language in the 4 basic skills (speaking, listening, writing and reading)
Students of Alliance Française have to attend at least 2 workshops of their choice while they study at the intermediate level before going to advanced stage.

Oral 1 (for levels A1.3 to A1.4)

For beginners lacking in fundamentals and willing to practice more oral tasks and activities.
This workshop focuses on phonetics and listening.

Oral 2 (for levels A2.1 to A2.6)

For students who wish to develop their listening and conversational skills and strategies.
All exercises are based on recordings on daily life topics. This workshop includes:
• listening/comprehension exercises
• conversational exercises

Writing 2 (for levels A2.1 to A2.6)

This workshop includes 2 kinds of exercises, all based on documents on daily life topics:
• Written comprehension
• Writing


Grammar 2 (for levels A2.1 to A2.6)

Back to the fundamentals about grammar and sentence structure in both writing and oral skills. Grammar topics are defined together with the group. The teacher will provide various exercises or task based activities in a ‘down-to-earth' approach, focused on the learners most practical needs.

Radio Blog (for levels A2.1 to A2.6)

Broadcast yourself with our new workshop "Radio Blog"! An effecient way to improve your speaking skills while learning more about French culture (music, cinema, gastronomy, tourism...) . Working in small groups of the same level, you will first prepare your topic (research and writing), then rehearse (practice of prononciation and intonation) and finally record your radio programm to publish it online. You will also have the opportunity to interview French people living in Hong Kong and do short video-reportings about French places in Hong Kong.
The workshop will take place at the Mediatheque (Jordan Centre).

Phonetics (for levels A1.3 to A2.2)

This workshop is an introduction to French phonetics. [ ε ] Students will learn how to pronounce and repeat French words and sentences correctly (both sounds and intonation).[ ã ]


 

Workshop for Teenagers (14 to 16 years old)

Oral preparation for GCSE et DELF Junior
For students who are preparing for GCSE / IGCSE

You have a French oral to prepare for a school exam (DELF Junior A2 or GCSE and others...)

Practice some useful exercises focused on presentation and conversation skills (topics: school,
family, routine, home life, sports and activities, environment...) and also role playing (ordering train tickets, food,
visit the post office or the bakery...)

This workshop helps you to gain confidence and improve your oral skills in order to excel in your examinations.


 

Specialised Courses

French Cultural Heritage - Villages in France
For students of all levels

Do you know how many guidebooks have been published about the 100 most beautiful villages of France ?
Come discover them in our workshop, a virtual tour !
It's cultural, it's gastronomic and practical !

Every class we will be discovering at least a new village, which will be the opportunity to get to know bits of French history, arts and architecture, local food specialties and wine. We will try to cover as many regions of France as possible to have an overview of the country.

We will find out how to go there and around , where to stay, what souvenirs to buy and much that sort of trip would cost.
The point is to select villages that you would like to visit and for the end of the workshop to help you create a routine of at least ten days.

This class is for beginners who are interested in French culture and will conducted entirely in English, with dialogues in French for the purpose of learning practical vocabulary and structures that will make your trip more enjoyable.

Documents will come from the internet and will be either in English or with English subtitles. We will use pictures, texts and videos.

 



Comprendre la France et les Français d'aujourd'hui (à partir du niveau B1.9)

Discussions autour de documents audio, vidéo, filmiques, et écrits sur des questions importantes pour comprendre la société française contemporaine.

Ce trimestre deux thèmes seront abordés : le couple en France aujourd'hui et la campagne présidentielle pour les élections de 2012

Dans ce cours, vous allez...
découvrir la richesse, le dynamisme, mais aussi la complexité de la société française.
développer vos compétences de compréhension et d'analyse de documents vidéo, audio et écrits authentiques en français.
apprendre à présenter votre point de vue de manière critique et équilibrée.
pratiquer et apprendre du vocabulaire spécialisé.
améliorer vos compétences générales de communication en français.




Conversation
For students of levels B1.1 or above

Commentaires de faits de société et de réalités françaises à travers des supports variés : articles de presse, extraits de films ou émissions télé… Le cours nécessite une participation active des étudiants, par des prises de parole lors de débats.
Ce cours a pour but d'améliorer les techniques de conversation (prise de parole, argumentation…) ainsi que le rythme et l'intonation.  

 



Expression écrite (Written communication)

For students of levels B1.1 or above

Ce cours propose le plus souvent, à partir de quelques lignes extraites d'un article de presse récent, de réagir à des faits de société français ou hongkongais, ou alors, de produire une histoire à partir d'une trame donnée.
Le professeur corrigera les textes et relèvera sur une feuille, distribuée aux étudiants, les fautes les plus intéressantes qui seront ensuite discutées et corrigées collectivement en classe.

 



Perfectionnement avec TV5
For students of levels B1.1 or above

Improve your French with TV5. Discover the different geographic variations of french language through the french speaking channel. Understand TV french as it is spoken by natives ! Then use the internet site as an extension to your lesson.



La presse en français
For students of levels B1.8 or above

Ce cours propose aux étudiants, à travers une large variété d'articles tirés de journaux et de magazines français ou du monde francophone, un regard sur les problèmes qui font l'actualité tant en France que dans la région.

Les étudiants sont évidemment invités à réagir à cette actualité durant la classe et à donner leur opinion dans un traval écrit qu'il produiront chez eux.

For students of levels B2

Objectives

  • to develop listening and speaking skills through activities based on French films extracts
  • to discover and appreciate French cinema

Active participation in speaking is required for this course.
